A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, three swords, points meeting at honor point Azure; and attached below the shield a Blue scroll inscribed "AD ALTA" in gold letters.
The three swords represent the attributes: courage, ingenuity and perseverance. The motto translates to "To The Heights."
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 73d Quartermaster Battalion (Light Maintenance) on 8 September 1941. It was redesignated for the 73d Ordnance Battalion on 9 July 1943. It was redesignated for the 73d Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion on 16 June 1949. The insignia was redesignated for the 73d Ordnance Battalion on 1 July 1957. It was amended to add a description on 18 July 1986.
